Foam density is a specific measurement of how much weight in pounds polyurethane foam can handle per cubic foot.
This density rating tells you the strength of the foam. The higher the number the longer the foam will last.
Foam's durability and lifespan also depends on amount of pressure and usage it gets.
The thicker the foam, the firmer it will feel. Additionally, keep in mind when deciding on the firmness of your foam that under heavy use, after 6 months to a year, upholstery foam will break in and soften up to about 20%-30% over time.
If it will get very seldom use, the original firmness may never soften.
Currently, the following high density foams are available for custom cuts...
1.8 Soft, 1.8 Medium, 1.8 Firm, 2.5 Medium-Firm
1.8 SOFT
The 1.8 Soft Grade offers soft to medium feel that is recommended for soft back cushions. If your preference is a firmer and more supportive cushion, then higher density foam should be chosen.

Not recommended for sofa seat cushions or other seating cushions

1.8 MEDIUM
The 1.8 Medium Grade features the perfect amount of cushioning and firmness. It is soft but still holds its firmness and support for an individual to sit on it without compressing the foam too much. Medium Firmness Foam is designed for medium traffic usage.

1.8 FIRM
The 1.8 Firm Grade offers firmness that is best and our more popular choice for all types of commercial and residential seat cushions. Firm Grade Foam is designed to hold more weight and for heavy traffic usage. It is also offered for projects needing extra firmness or for individuals with preference for extra firmness. Also, this foam would be recommended as a center piece between 2 1.8 Medium Foams to create a combination foam with firm center support.
Common Uses: Sofa Seat Cushions . Bay Window Cushions . Benches . Chair Pads . Mattresses . Booth Seat Cushions. Warning: This foam is very firm and is not recommended for individuals who do not have preference for extra firmness.

UA2.5 MEDIUM-FIRM
The UA2.5 Medium-Firm has a comfortable medium-firm feel offering a high degree of support while retaining its shape and density. If you are looking for support and durability, then this foam is for you. This foam has rubber based characteristics which means it will not break down like ordinary foams. It will maintain its original shape and firmness for many more years than lower grades.
